ThingsMatrix Service Platform 2.4 Quick Start Guide

1 Preface

This guide is to help users to add a ThingsMatrix approved device into the ThingsMatrix Service Platform.

2 Create a group

  1. Before you can add a new device, you need to create a group for the device model on the ThingsMatrix Service Platform. After logging in, go to Asset - Device Management via the navigation bar on the left. Then select a device model. Let's take TMX08 for an example. Enter the Group List by clicking the Group tab. Click the + button and a New Group window will pop up.

  2. Fill in the form and then click the Save button to create a group. Please note: The fields with * are required, while the other fields are optional. The group name must be unique. For how to apply configuration templates to the group, please go to 4 Create a template section below. To apply policies, please refer to 10.6 Policy section in ThingsMatrix Service Platform User Guide. Notification feature is supported. A description for the group can be added as well.

3 Add a device

Before you can add a device, a group for the device model must exist on the ThingsMatrix Service Platform. If not, please create a group first following the instructions in 2 Create a group section above.

  1. Go to Asset - Device List, click the + button on the top right side.

  2. A New Device window will pop up, fill in the form and click the Submit button to add a new device. Please note: The fields with * are required, while the other fields are optional. * For "SIM ICCID" field, users can choose to provide or not provide relevant information because the Platform will automatically collect this information. If the Auto Update checkbox is checked, the Platform is allowed to do additional updates after the information is initially populated, such as replacing the SIM card. If not, the Platform will reject the connection to the device if you replace the SIM card after the information is initially populated. You can also assign a specific alias, add tags and create customized attributes to the device.

  3. You can see the newly added device in the device list. The next step is to insert the SIM card into your device and turn the power on. Please refer to the Installation Instructions section in the corresponding device's ThingsMatrix Device Manual for further information on physical installation.

  4. The device will then automatically connect to the ThingsMatrix Service Platform. Refresh the page to read the device's latest status. The device has been added successfully.

  5. You can also add a device directly in a group. Go to Asset - Device Management, select a device model and click the Group tab. Select a device group, for example "tmx08_demo", enter the Device tab, click the + button on the right side and then fill in the form to add a device. If there isn't any device in the group yet, you can also click the add device button in the middle.

4 Create a template

ThingsMatrix approved devices may have default configurations. For flexibility, the ThingsMatrix Service Platform provides you a configuration template which can be applied to device groups. For example, you can modify the reporting interval of the device based on requirements. Then you can apply the template to groups.

  1. Go to Asset - Device Management, select the device model that you want to create a template for, for example, TMY07. Then enter the Config Template tab and click the + button.

  2. A New Configuration window will pop up, fill in the form and click the Save button to create a template. The image below shows a very simple configuration template on periodic mode, in which the parameter of "Report Interval" is set to be 600 seconds. Please refer to 9.2.10 Adding new Templates section in ThingsMatrix Service Platform User Guide to get further information on the configuration template.

  3. After you create a template, you can see it in the configuration template list of the device model. Then you can apply the configuration template to the device group that you want. All the devices in the group will apply the configuration template.
